Park of shame
Joe Moakley Park, in South Boston, is 57 acres of running track, stadium steps, lots of fields -- and overflowing barrels of garbage.

First-time visitors to the park are greeted by an overflowing trash can.

Purple flowers without trash on them. Won't be long!

The city artfully placed this trash barrel on the grass next to a pile of litter.

Workers emptied this trash can -- onto the surrounding park.

Putting the emptied trash barrel in between the stakes is just too much work.

After all, we wouldn't want picnickers to strain themselves walking the extra 20 inches.

Looking for somewhere to keep your homeless-guy garbage bags? Go ahead, stash them in the tree!

This weathered basswood is nicely complimented by a Stop & Shop grocery cart with plastic bags!

And Dorchester's Malibu Beach, is also known as McConnell Park, Savin Hill Beach, and, according to the state but nobody else, "Dorchester Shores." Plan your visit for June or July, because during the rest of the year, state workers, who seem to change the name of the park more often than they clean it, take away most of the garbage cans. Good thinking!
