Output a mix tape from your computer
by running a Y cable from computer's sound card Speaker output to stereo's CD audio input

  • Open your MP3.
Open the MP3 mix file you've saved. (Read how to make a mix file
    here.)
  • Run Y-cable from computer to stereo.
Plug the single Y-cable end into your computer's sound card's Speaker output (it's light green), the double (red and white) ends into stereo receiver's CD Audio inputs.
  • Set computer for playing.
If you haven't already, check computer's play volume: Control Panel, Multimedia, Audio tab, "Show volume control in taskbar" applied, "Play" and "Line-In" volumes set to about 90%; check Audacity's volume, Volume icon, volume set to about 90%. Check power: make sure computer's power scheme is set to "Always On."
  • Set stereo for recording.
Select "CD" on stereo receiver. Set tape deck's record input volume by turning analog dial to about 60% (or "1 o'clock"). Signal should oscillate between +1 and +2 red bars on the recording meter for a tape without background hiss (the peril of input too soft) or distortion (the peril of input too loud).
  • Record away!
When ready to record, press "record" on the tape deck, and "play" on the Audacity end to make a nice audio tape recording, no skips, clicks or other burned-CD errors.
